Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

An evidence-based technique that helps people improve their quality of life and manage a range of health conditions, such as stress, depression, pain, as well as other symptoms.

Freedom in the Present Moment

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and related techniques have been clinically proven to have a host of health benefits for practitioners, including increased mind-body awareness, improved emotional regulation and improved ability to manage stress, pain and other symptoms.

Much of our lives are spent in ‘auto-pilot,’ and we can become the victim of our thoughts, feelings, sensations and even ideas.

MBSR consists of a series of techniques designed to train the mind to pay attention and focus on the present moment. Training the attention and awareness in non-judgmental acceptance of experiences, sensations, thoughts, memories and impulses results in reduced suffering and distress and an improved sense of well-being.

Although it has its roots in spiritual traditions like Buddhism, MBSR is a secular program pioneered by professor of medicine Jon Kabat-Zinn. The techniques he developed compliment medical treatment plans so well that MBSR has been implemented in many hospitals worldwide.

A Complimentary Therapy

  • Who it’s for

Whether you suffer from a chronic health condition like pain, depression or stress, or simply want to be more effective at work, home and in relationships, MBSR has been shown to be effective for people from all walks of life and backgrounds. It can help you become less reactive to emotions, feelings and situations, less judgmental and more joyful in daily life.

  • Experience it for Yourself

For more than two decades, mindfulness meditation has been the focus of clinical research and has been the subject of hundreds of published studies. It brings a host of benefits to practitioners, including lowering stress, increasing relaxation, improved quality of life and ability to manage pain. It has also been shown to be effective for a range of health conditions, such as anxiety, mood issues, addictions, chronic pain, ADHD, sleep problems, blood pressure and coping with other medical symptoms.

  • How It Works

MBSR is taught by certified trainers, usually over the course of eight weeks, with additional exercises to be done at home. The experienced trainers at Numinus empower clients to develop and deepen a practice that can be incorporated into their daily lives, including mindfulness meditation, body scanning and some simple yoga postures.

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. This kind of attention nurtures greater awareness, clarity, and acceptance of the present-moment reality. It wakes you up to the fact that our lives unfold only in moments. If we are not fully present for many of those moments, we may not only miss what is most valuable in our lives but also fail to realize the richness and the depth of our possibilities for growth and transformation.”
